I ordered a book from this company. The listing on eBay stated it would be sent by Royal Mail, and BOOKS etc. confirmed this via an eBay message. But it was sent by a different courier instead. This unreliable logistics caused me a lot of hassle and annoyance. Customer service was poor and evasive. Their incompetence was explained away as an "upgrade"!

Ordered a book, heard nothing from them, no confirmation etc. Contacted them asking what was happening. They replied quite quickly saying the book wasn't available & would take about a week more. In the meantime they took my money. The book eventually arrived about 10 days late which was unfortunate as it was a gift for the previous week. When it did arrive, the book was in perfect condition.

Books, etc. are refusing to accept my latest order with the following "The seller isn't accepting bids or offers from you." I have been trying for five days to find out from them why this is so, but they are simply not replying. I will adjust or delete this review accordingly once they have responded.

I ordered a book from the Netherlands. The book they shipped was in excellent condition.
They delicately protected it. Best price, free delivery and delivered quickly.

I bought a boxed set of the Iliad & Odyssey from Books Etc on their Ebay shop back in March 2024. The product was described as new and I paid over £30. When the item arrived it seemed fine, with no obvious damage. I did not read the books immediately. However, when I started reading a few months later I discovered that one of the pages in the Iliad is badly ripped, with text missing as a result.

Les informations de suivi étaient complètement erronées entre celles données par Amazon, celle données par Books et celles de la Poste. Et la surprise est venue quand il a fallu payer la douane et la TVA pour débloquer la situation (chose pas du tout clairement faite par le vendeur sur le site d'achat). N'achetez pas sur un site UK si vous n'êtes pas prêt à affronter les frais de douane et la lenteur du processus d'administration (TVA et frais de douane). Bref un vrai parcours du combattant pour un livre d'étudiant. J'ai trouvé cela vraiment choquant. Merci les anglais, je vous éviterai à l'avenir

Avoid this firm. They promise an 2-3 day delivery and when it doesn’t come after over 10 days will still not give us our money back

Books etc., is a reliable online book seller, that offers a vast inventory of subjects at competitive prices plus free delivery within a few days of placement of my order. I have used them for a number of years and have been very happy with all my transactions.

I am impressed with the prices at BOOKS etc. New books are delivered quickly and at a lower cost than elsewhere - often at a better price than secondhand!

Ordered a book through Amazon Prime on November 2nd that failed to arrive. The Courier was allegedly USPS but when I tried tracking it was an invalid ID. Amazon offered a refund because it appears the order has been lost. We really want the book so gave Books etc a chance to re-order. Still waiting and wondering if Books Etc is a bona fide seller??

SCAMMERS. DISHONEST DO NOT BUY

This company do not stock books, thye buy them from honest suppliers, authors etc. They buy the books, handle them in their warehouse, damage them then send them off to buyers in a damaged state. They then try to claim the money back from paypal.

You're not sorry. You bought a book shipped to you in perfect condition as proven in photos. It sat with you for weeks, you damaged the books, photoshopped an image and passed it off as faulty. You are a truly despicable company and we have banned you from ever purchasing from us in the future.

I ordered a batman and robin omnibus, it arrived with a big tear on the sleeve of the book, I sent an email and no response.

Very very slow and poor customer service
From ordering my book there was a grand total of 21 days and still hadn’t received the omnibus.
They send the same generic message out saying we dispatch within 2/3 days but was 8 days just until they dispatched it then trying to get tracking updates was like trying to find the holy grail.

Competitive price, well packaged, and prompt delivery.

I ordered a book, which was amazingly cheap compared to the RRP, albeit still £50 +. This was supposedly posted over 8 days ago via the Royal Mail, although sent without tracking - which seems madness for an expensive item. Beginning to think this was never sent, as they are now listing at a more accurate £91, but showing as “out of stock”.

Disappointing.

Brand new book received with multiple creases and damage to the cover. It was a gift so I felt I had to purchase an extra one for giving a damaged one.
I was offered a refund or replacement if I returned it but I needed to give it straight away so that wasn’t an option. I requested a partial refund or credit to compensate and was refused. So they had photos of the damaged book and packaging so could make a claim against the post while I had to suck it up and accept giving a damaged book as a gift.
Customer service were quick and polite until I complained.

Completely agree with previous review. I used to buy almost all my books from here but in recent months, with newly published books, one gets "sorry, no items match your search criteria" all the time. A month ago I called to challenge them about this and they promised to get back to me. Of course I never heard anything more.

I know they had trouble after launching a new web site in parallel with the old one. This new one appears now to have disappeared.

Speedyhen, Hive or Ebay are best for new books now. Books Etc are a waste of time. I've left 2 stars for old memories!

This used to be my go-to merchant of choice for buying books, with very competitive prices and fast service, but I have recently been frequently forced to shop elsewhere as newly published books are simply not listed, and the shipping has become much slower.

Liked: - The book as reasonably priced and arrived well packed in excellent condition.

Disliked:- There was no notice that the book had been dispatched, worrying as it turned up five days later than expected.
