Stay Away

Stayed there for one night. Had a meal which was terrible. They speak with the Welsh tongue and disrespect anyone that doesn’t. You get the feeling that they are talking about in in a disrespectful way.

The bar man tallies up all your drinks and reports this to the manageress who must have a relation/ship with police and as soon as you are one mile up the road two police cars appear.

Please do not stop there because it will ruin your holiday.

As for Caernarfon itself, the surrounding pubs are really dirty and the toilets are terrible. I would even say that our brave soldiers serving in WW1 got cleaner toilets.

Honestly, I would not give the Black Boy Inn any stars but had to put on to submit this review.

Please be careful of this place and lock your doors.

Very unfriendly and surreal with a lot of family integration.

Long wait for food and not very warm

Have wanted to visit the Black Boy for a long time. Today was the day that we visited for lunch. It was after 2pm when we arrived. Courtyard was busy-ish, front of pub had tables free, nobody in public bar and inside eating was empty apart from ourselves and a couple of guys. Ordered drinks and food in the Public Bar. We must've waited 40 minutes for our food. Two meals arrived then we waited about another 5 for the third meal. Cajun chicken and fish finger sandwich not what you'd call hot. Cajun chicken was bland. Best bit about my meal was the coleslaw 🤷‍♀️.

Not somewhere that i anticipate returning to although we are local.

Long Waits, Cold Food and Poor Value

We visited the Black Boy Inn in Caernarfon last Thursday at around 4pm as a group of five and, unfortunately, our experience was disappointing.
The pub wasn't particularly busy at the time. There were only a handful of people sitting inside and outside, so the delays couldn't really be put down to it being exceptionally busy.
After being seated, we ordered five drinks using the QR code on the table. There was nothing unusual about the order, yet it took around 25 minutes for the drinks to arrive.
While waiting, we ordered our food through the app. The meals were:
Fish and chips
Flatbread
Lasagne
Two chicken burgers
Sadly, none of the meals arrived hot. My fish and chips came with cold chips, the lasagne was very dry, and both chicken burgers were noticeably overcooked and burnt.
Ordinarily, we would have raised this with staff, but after already waiting so long for both the drinks and the food, we didn't want to risk waiting even longer for replacement meals. As we'd ordered and paid through the app, it also felt less straightforward to discuss the issues at the time.
To add to our disappointment, we'd unknowingly left a £1 tip for the drinks and a £5 tip for the food when ordering through the app. Had we known the level of service and food quality we were going to receive, we certainly wouldn't have chosen to leave a tip.
The Black Boy Inn has a strong reputation and is in a fantastic location, which makes this experience all the more disappointing. Hopefully this was just an off day, but based on our visit, there is definitely room for improvement in both the speed of service and the quality of the food.

We have stayed at this pub accomodation…

We have stayed at this pub accomodation a few times over the years, and loved the quirky okd rooms, so we decided to book 2 rooms, for me my husband, and my sister and brother in law, after the loss of our eldest son's. We checked in, and we were directed to a block of apartments down the road, which was not what we were expecting, as the rooms shown on the website, were the old quirky rooms. Also the block of appartments were right opposite a noisy pub, with music blaring out, and people shouting and swearing. I messaged the reception that night to express our complaint, and my husband told the lady, who told him, the owners were playing monoply, buying other buildings to make money, and she said she would ring us to let us know what they would do as we were not happy. I got a phone call, to tell me they would not offer us any money back, and as we oaid £280, for one night, we think this was disgusting. I even found the owners name and address on Companies house, and sent him a letter, but I still haven't had a reply. Beware if you want to stay at the pub, you might not be getting what you pay for!

A couple of ups and downs on my visit…

A couple of ups and downs on my visit to the restaurant yesterday. The down, was me tripping and face planting to the floor on entering the restaurant. The ups, was the kindness and care given me by staff member Delwyn, who was so attentive and rescued me from embarrassment, he ensured I was comforted and well taken care of and unhurt. He went beyond his role, and made sure this clumsy old lady felt safe and cared for. Diolch o galon Delwyn, yn arbenig, a Vicky hefyd.

Appalling way to treat staff

Lovely venue, good food. But overheard the Manager abusing a staff member, shouting with F and Cs clearly heard by me a customer. No way to treat anyone. He needs sacking, what a bullyboy

Dogs aren't really welcome

I called in for a quick beer around 5pm. I had my collie with me, a sign outside advised dogs welcome in bar up to 5.30. A waitress walked up to me and abruptly told me dogs not allowed after 5.30. Maybe they should change the sign to ''dogs and owners are tolerated but not really welcome and they must leave by 5.30''. Only one draught ale, Bass, which was good but disappointing not to see any local beers.

Went to the Black boy in Caernarfon…

Went to the Black boy in Caernarfon today for a meal absolutely shocking! The staff behind the bar were miserable not very friendly at all! Ordered the Steak & Ale Pie the pastry was that thin it was more like biscuit no depth to it at all! Had to send the veg back as it was stone cold! Meat was hit & miss some were tender & some tough as old boots, must of been about two mushrooms in it! Chips left a lot to be desired! Not once did anyone come and ask us was the food ok! For £19.95 I think they need to reevaluate what they are cooking!

A Lovely One Nights Stay

A lovely one nights stay, sorry it couldn't be longer.
My room was beautiful and extremely clean. Worth every penny.
I feel I must commend Alaw Williams who was at the front desk taking details and allocating. She was thoroughly lovely and was very attentive due to me disabilities. Nothing was too much trouble for Allaw. I didn't have to ask for anything, she immediately knew what was needed. What a lovely lady and an asset to the Company.
The Black Boy will go far to find a more caring employee other than Alaw.
Thank you for a pleasant stay.
Kindest of Regards Amelia.

Shambles.

Walked in today for a meal, already wasn't too impressed as the bar was tight, if not outright clustrophobic. Have to say as well, looks racist and well out of modern day standards. Lable of an enslaved black child right outside, and inside by the fire place, what looks like a giant golliwog.

The inn, established over 500 years ago, is deeply rooted in the history of our town. The name originally honored a local figure, Jack Ystumllyn, whose nickname was "Jack Black" or "Jac Du," and has evolved over time. We want to emphasize that we categorically reject racism in all its forms. We are proud to be a welcoming space for people of all nationalities and backgrounds, and we value our diverse clientele. Our long-standing relationship with the Windrush Society, who hold their annual art exhibitions here, is a testament to our commitment to inclusivity.
