We are a family bakery located in the heart of the East Midlands. We have been powering our communities with cream cakes and sausage cobs since 1919. Everything we make, we make from scratch. And many of our recipes have remained unchanged for generations. We take as much pride in our work as we ever did. Our family goes far beyond the Birds. It's all about people that have mixed our dough, topped our tarts or bagged up our buns. Everyone's got a story about Birds, from lifetime employees and lemon tart devotees to our loyal suppliers and local charities.

DON’T BOTHER WITH THIS PLACE..
DON’T BOTHER WITH THIS PLACE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED LESS THAN EQUAL!!
Absolutely disgusting customer service!! Rude and pathetic staff who struggle to run a simple bakery. Incompetent till staff who couldn’t even listen to the order we had asked for in the first place (too busy chatting to other staff) so had gotten it wrong..
They also can’t even be arsed to ask a simple question such as “are you eating in or taking away?” so so lazy!
We had the grubby looking manager? sat in the corner of the shop (in the customer seating area) get mardy cause we wanted to sit in when we didn’t realise you had to pay extra for the ‘privilege’. Apparently there’s a sign somewhere because they can’t be bothered to ask you at the till. The way she approached this was to rudely shout across the bakery to the till staff and to then bluntly tell us (Disabled 70yr old woman and daughter) that we’re not allowed to sit in despite saying we were sorry we hadn’t realised. Thus making us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome like we weren’t meant to be there.. We said we were happy to pay the extra but she quite obviously didn’t want to do that and made out like it was such a hassle to go back and charge us for being able to sit in that ✨lovely cramped area✨ of the bakery. So we didn’t bother, took our food and left. Would much rather not be around that negative and toxic environment anyway.
Seems as though the lot of them are stuck in their own little world and have never been in another bakery/cafe where they care about their customers and provide a friendly, inviting environment/experience the way it is at most other places. You should probably look up the definition of hospitality considering you work in that sector!!
I’ll give you a little hint and tell you it’s actually not that hard to be a decent human being and act with some professionalism and kindness.
Judging by the rest of the reviews I’m clearly not the only one who has had this sort of experience. Therefore if you hate your job that much why don’t you just do us all a favour and leave it 🤷♀️ 😂
Birds bakery is a disgrace to our lovely town (Newark on Trent) and community with the current staff running it..
Save yourself the stress and just avoid this place!
Superb service at short notice
On Saturday we held a quiz in our local village hall and had planned to provide snacks for everyone attending. We had planned to purchase the food from a large 'Membership Warehouse Club' but due to unforeseen circumstances had missed the deadline for ordering. Went to Birds in Uttoxeter and asked if they could provide enough food for 82 people, given we only had 48 hours before the event. The staff went over and above all expectations and delivered a fantastic spread of food, superb quality, freshness, variety and taste. Customer Service was second to none. We had no waste what so ever and many people commented on how good the food was. Thank you
Lost a regular customer here
Well I was a regular customer to the Lichfield branch but for no longer.
Meals served in a bag, or an insulated carton, coffee served in paper cups and wooden cutlery. Table service is no more.
You can continue to pay more to sit down, it feels like going into a
McDonalds - but you dont get a tray.
I feel sorry for the staff, how times change!
Where is the butter ! ?
I bought a pack of the 2 mini ham rolls the thing I can is they were fresh - I know times are hard but where is the butter /substitute, I realize there are strict time lines for making sandwiches/rolls no butter on the top half & I moved the slither of ham & there it was clearly a butter knife had touched the roll - really I can supply a picture I don't normally make a comment but really

How to ruin a sausage roll
How to ruin a sausage roll
For years I have purchased Birds sausage rolls but not any more. They have made them bigger, same amount of sausage but more puff pastry at the ridiculous price of £1.45. Shame because the smaller ones were affordable price of four for three pounds and much tastier. Think Birds are out pricing themselves to total destruction.
Lovely staff at Park Farm
Visited Park Farm was served by Clare, she went over and above to ensure that we had all we needed in the café.
In addition we purchased some dog treats, she was very knowledgeable about the product and was able advise the ingredients in each one.
Well done, and thank you Clare :)
I just visited Birds and asked for 2…steak bake gate
I just visited Birds and asked for 2 cold steak slices as I would presumably not pay vat on them. I don't think the lady serving got it as she said we have hot ones that you can allow to cool down. Anyway not to worry and I bought them anyway. I kid you not.... £7!!! How can 2 steak slices cost £7?
Much to my non suprise they were no better than Greggs.
Love birds cream cakes
Love birds cream cakes. But please please please bring back the large custards and the large Victoria Jam and cream sponges. Also please bring the half pork pies. So so so missing them.
If their cakes get any smaller they…
If their cakes get any smaller they will disappear altogether. But no doubt their usual excuse will be we have not changed their sizes. Pull the other one.
What a joke
What a joke, I’ve been visiting my local Birds for many years, enjoying the bread, cakes and also sitting in the cafe for a cooked breakfast. On my visit today ordered breakfast, sat down, when breakfast came I asked for some ketchup, to be told it now costs 15 pence. The server concluded that they had reduced the cost of hot drinks but had to charge for ketchup ?, and that McDonalds charge for the same, (not true).
So much for Birds good old fashioned service, you need to take a good look at yourselves, I’ve been a customer for over 40 years, the cafe 3 doors down do a great breakfast and guess what the ketchup is free.

Used to going in here at least once a week, but the ready made filled rolls have gone downhill, especially the cheese & onion sandwich filling.
No spread on the roll & very little filling on it.
Prices have risen on most of the food in here just lately.
Don't feel they are being fair to pensioners & disabled people who would like a weekly treat.
In future I will give this shop a miss & buy my own rolls & fillings from the supermarket.
Service & prices like you'rs what closes a business down..
It's worrying.
Poor service
Oh dear, where to start. Just visited this place. I thought I’d walked in to a poker game due to the staffs deadpan faces. The younger girl in there looked marginally happier. As there were no plain salad roll options I asked at the counter if they could possibly make one up as they were making other items up at the time. Their response was… We will have to charge you the same as a ham salad roll! Not the money it was the principal. They eventually charged for a cheese salad which I took without the cheese. We bought a few other items and shuffled out feeling quite embarrassed for even having dared to ask. I would usually buy rolls from independents who really appreciate customer’s needs and will bend over backwards to help. Retraining in customer service and a course in smiling is needed in there.
44% OF CUSTOMERS ON TRUST PILOT GAVE THIS A 1 STAR! AN AVERAGE OF 2.9 OUT OF 5??
Head office please take note
To experience for what you get
How much for 2 slices of bacon prices at are a bit steep to say the least
The Customer’s Requirements are of no importance….
I have been a customer of Birds for many years and have spent many pounds in store each and every week. I have however significantly reduced my custom because I refuse to be bullied into buying prepackaged items, ie, cooked meats, cobs, sausage, in the quantities that they want to sell to me rather than in the quantities I want to buy. Birds adopted the prepackaged method for their cooked meats and sausage under Covid restrictions - not entirely sure why because supermarkets didn’t - but have never reverted to selling these items as per customer’s requirements. I have raised this issue with Birds in the past but, as other customers have found, they are not interested.
I had to have a chuckle to myself this morning when I spotted a sign in my local Birds’ window stating they were actively working to reduce food waste! HOW???
Fantastic service
The staff at Birds in Mickleover are lovely. VICKY is absolutely fantastic. The food you prepared for my birthday is fabulous. I’m so pleased. Everything is so fresh and delicious. It’s always a pleasure to visit Birds.

As a family we have been purchasing Birds cooked hams, petit rolls, custard tarts and pork pies for many years. All of these products surpass other products from either local or national chains. But I have to mention Birds Large Pork pies. The consistency of their flavour, texture and taste has never changed, and nor do we want that to happen! I won’t comment any further.

Hello

£1.80 for 3 crusty cobs
£1.80 for 3 crusty cobs. Used to be 6 in the pack then reduced to 4 reduced in size and now reduced to 3 in a pack. I will no longer buy my weekly cakes and bread as everywhere else is cheaper and you get more for your money.
