We just returned from a two week trip to Bulgaria and Romania with Balkan Trails. We were 3 couples and we all gave this trip a big thumbs up! Loved our driver/guides, all the itinerary plans that were made for us, our hotels and vans. It was the most thorough trip we could have imagined-- from big cities to 2 nights on the farm in the country! We loved all the food, the beauty and the experience of a different Europe than we're used to! Kudos to Zoe and Vlad-- the owners of Balkan Trails!

We recently returned from a 2 week tour of Bulgaria and Romania with 2 other couples. We can't say enough about the value we received from Balkan Trails!! Our trip was planned so well, and the accommodations were excellent! Every detail was thought of by Balkan Trails! Our guides took such good care of us and were part of the family by the time we parted. It was like having a big brother to take care of you and guide you through the amazing experience of discovering these countries. All the tickets for the sites were puchased ahead of time, and long cues were avoided! (Whew!)
Our guides (Stoyan in Bulgaria & Florin in Romania) were so knowledgeable that we all thought they could easily teach History for their respective countries. Their passion and expertise made our trip so exciting and stimulating! My birthday happened while we were in Bulgaria, and when we walked into our room, there was a beautiful birthday cake and a box of lovely cupcakes! This exemplifies the caring and attention to detail offered by Zoe & Vlad and the whole Balkan Trails team! We highly recommend this trip! I personally had no idea what to expect, and was blown away by the interesting history and the awesome natural beauty of these countries, especially Romania! It has the variety of landscape that I have only seen in the United States and New Zealand: Swiss Alp like green mountains, with quaint little villages tucked in at the bottom of the mountains, rolling plains with endless fields of wildflowers and sheep grazing unencumbered by fences, giant gorges reminiscent of Yosemite Valley, ancient little villages dotted with farms - each with a beautiful garden and the whole family in the fields working with pitch forks, wooden carts, and horses.
Then, there are no words to truly describe the amazing Churches, Monasteries and historical structures that we visited! So much history!
You will LOVE this trip! We will never forget our experiences and have wonderful memories to last a lifetime!

Great itinerary, excellent choice of hotels and very well chosen guides made for an outstanding trip. It was a pleasure to deal with Balkan Trails.

My daughter and I thank Balkan Trails for the wonderful tour of Bulgaria and Romania. We had two excellent guides-Toma for Bulgaria and Stefan for Romania. Each was knowledgeable about his country and we learned so much from them. Toma was so nice to show us his country house since my daughter was curious about the inside of the houses there. We did and seen so many sights that were just beautiful and wonderful. I would not hesitate to use Balkan Trails again. Just a wonderful trip!!!

I really enjoyed my trip with Balkan Trails. My guide for Romania was terrific as was my guide in Bulgaria. The accommodations were excellent with televisions and WiFi available in all locations. Booking the trip was very easy and Vlad was terrific in his suggestions for my transfer to my connecting trip in Greece.

Balkan Trails has very good experience tour guide. I had Mr. Toma Georgiev in Sofia and Mr Valentin Nan in Romania. Both are very experience and helpful. They explain the history of their country very well. Our baggage was delay for 4 days from Rome to Sofia. Mr Toma was very helpful, he call the Sofia airport every moment to liaised on the delivery of our baggage. I was not feeling well during my trip in Romania. Mr Valentin help us with our heavy baggage up and down the hotels room. Both of tour guide were very attentive. They make effort to understand our need and exceeded our expectation. They also pay attention to our safety every moment. We have been travelling for 22 days before our trip with them. They bring us to all the places of interest at our pace. Despite our tiredness, we have great time with them. They ended our vacation with beautiful memory. We will definitely choose and recommend our friends Balkan Trails for their trip to Sofia and Romania. Thank you very much.

We were on a 7-day "Bulgaria and Romania at a Glance" private tour from 25 March to 01 April 2017. From initial arrangements prior to arrival in Sofia, Bulgaria to departure at Bucharest airport, Balkan Trails provided excellent services. Special thanks to our tour guides (Stoyan in Bulgaria and Razvan in Romania) who went the extra mile to ensure that we had a memorable trip. Bulgaria and Romania are two beautiful countries. Our only regret is that we didn't spend enough time in both countries.

Easy organisation, helpful emails and plenty of contact. No problems at all. Guide and driver Stefan Farkutin was excellent, very knowledgeable, extremely safe driver, wonderful attention to detail. Brought us on walking tour even when we arrived late in the city. Made many recommendations.

We booked through Balkan trails a four day trip.it was a great experience .our guide( don't feel like calling him a guide he became more of a friend) Valentino was superb,very helpful and full of information .the trip was well planned. Hotels booked by them were good. Missed many places because we visited during winters,next time we will plan a trip in summers.thanks Zoe and Vald

I went on two Romanian day trips – a day trip to Transylvania and the Wallachian Discovery. I thoroughly enjoyed both trips and found the Transylvanian region particularly beautiful – I would love to return with more time to explore! It was a pleasure to have Florin Vladu as my guide for the two days – he was not only extremely knowledgeable, but also very personable, kind and flexible; it was great to have him for company during both trips. Romania is a stunningly beautiful country with such a rich history - I would definitely recommend a visit to Romania (and using Balkan Trails!) to others.

Good experience in both countries. Great holiday and would recommend it to anyone traveling in Eastern Europe.

Awesome Guides and great value for money!

We had a 19 day guided tour of Romania for two with the tour tailored to meet our interests. All arrangements worked smoothly. We stayed in both hotels and guest house with the guest houses in particular giving us a real experience of Romania. Highlights for us were painted monasteries and Danube Delta

really enjoyed the trip; sound and well constructed itinerary and very well looked after by Val who was knowledgable and attentive going the extra mile arranging to see other sites of interests to us. Scenery outstanding.
Variety of accomodation excellent.

We had a great time with Balkan Tours guides Marina in Bulgaria and Stefan in Romania. The tour was well organised and packaged to let us experience the highlights of Bulgaria & Romania. Marina is very knowledgeable of Bulgaria's history and all the sites we visited and Stefan was really fun to spend time with as a guide. Thank you Vlad & team!

We took the new 10 days tour of Bulgaria. Balkan Trails delivered everything they had committed to and more. Zoe even came to meet us in Plovdiv. They assigned to us a very experienced tour guide, who took care of every detail; all we had to do is sit back and enjoy. The vehicle was very comfortable and clean, we drove some 2300 kms in 10 days. Hotel accommodations were adequate, our guide was recommending restaurants to us for dinner, this was useful. The sites were very interesting, Bulgaria will surprise you. Thanks again Balkan Trails for this awesome vacation.

We were very happy with our recent holiday in Romania in May 2016 which we organised entirely through Balkan Trails. All the arrangements and bookings they made for us worked out fluently. We were particularly pleased with our driver/guide, whose command of English, range of conversation, and delightful sense of humour were impressive - not to mention his punctuality, helpfulness and driving skills. We had a really good time and much enjoyed the interesting range of experiences that Romania has to offer - particularly in the countryside and up in the north.
One important point to add - Balkan Trails were very responsive when we were sorting out our itinerary with them and quite happy to discuss in detail the questions and alternative suggestions we put to them. It's nice not to be treated as a number!
Based on our good experience, we would have no hesitation in recommending the services of Balkan Trails to others.

We have used Balkan Trails twice and both times have been very satisfied. Their communication via email is quick and they modified the flexible itinerary to meet our needs.
The guides they use are very knowledgable and provide lots of helpful information not just limited to the usual tourist guiding. Both times the guide in Bulgaria has acted as interpreter when we were meeting our daughter in law's grandma as we had no language in common.
The guide in Romania provided so much information we were amazed. Dates, history, general information, it was all there provided in context as we saw the various sights.
I would recommend them if you want a good value trip that can be customised to suit your needs, they are the reliable company to choose. Well done twice and thanks.
