Just landed at Vienna Airport and had a phone call from AutoUnion. They told me they could not honour my booking I was supposed to pick up in 1hour… The car was damaged and they had no alternative cars… They could offer no cars till June and to contact the broker for a refund, see email I requested below.

Incase anyone thinks it’s a good idea to rent from AutoUnion please remember that my usually very comprehensive travel insurance offers zero protection for using a useless car hire company. Last minute alternatives to rent at airport were £60/day and a taxi to our destination was e160 with the same fee again on return and of course no cars inbetween.

AutoUnion have no backup cars, no compensation and no insurance policy will protect you from this. I have Amex platinum insurance and Lloyds bank insurance. Neither offer protection for a car hire booking not being honoured.

We were with two children as well at 10pm.

Is it worth the risk?????

“You have a car reservation for today at 22:00 with us. I need to inform you that we can not provide the car for you for this period.
This car had an accident and we can not change it. As I see you have been paid everything so in this case you need to contact you broker company (Discover Cars) to get a refund.”

Das Unternehmen ist nicht direkt am Flughafen. Der Shuttlebus ist erst nach mehreren Anrufen, nach einer 40 min Wartezeit im Regen gekommen. Das Auto war beschädigt. Vergessenes Geld wurde, trotz sofortiger Reklamation nicht rück erstattet. Nach 3 Monaten wurde meine Kreditkarte mit 50,-- belastet und 130,-- wurden auf der Karte blockiert. Der Kundenservice war nicht erreichbar, Mails wurden nicht beantwortet. Mittlerweile weiss ich, dass die 50,-- als Bearbeitungsgebühr verrechnet wurden weil meine Daten an die Polizei weitergeleitet wurden. (Ich habe einen Strafzettel bekommen.) Die Bearbeitungsgebühr von Autounion war übrigens genauso hoch wie der Strafbescheid.
Ich würde nie wieder ein Auto dieser Firma buchen.
