This "health club" is allowing migrant thief's to sign up for memberships so they can steal your belongings & god knows what else!

I have been a member at this gym for 12 months & what a mistake. Poor conditions such as mould growing in the steam room. I complained but the woman on reception just pulled a face. The mould was there since i joined day one.

They did clean the limescale ridden shower heads but only 3 months later..

Anyway back to the theft. I brought my belongings with me & locked them into my locker. My wedding ring, bracelet & watch with a combined value of 25 grand. I went for a shower came back 10 minutes later & my locker was opened & my things gone.

Long story short the police confirmed the thief was staying at the travelodge across the road under fake information & likewise at the gym.

My question is why have the gym allowed this thief to sign up for a 12 month membership when the postcode he has supplied is 4 hours across the country without more rigorous checks? Ill tell you why they dont give a toss about their members only £££.

Avoid this gym if you have kids or value your possessions as these thieves gained access at Athelis with ease.

*All the information I have submitted in this review is the truth & from my own experience.*

I joined Athelis gym back in January 25 and have loved every minute of attending from the classes on offer, the gym equipment to the management customer service. I have found reformer Pilates classes fantastic and in particular really enjoy Jenny’s classes, she is a great instructor and always makes time to answer any questions or concerns so big shout out Jenny

I went for a a spa day with my friend. We spent the majority of the day in the outside pool. We Weren’t allowed to drink Prosecco by the pool however the jacuzzi wasn’t clean and full of bits- make it make sense.
The actual place is nice but the rules make no sense. Why can I not drink Prosecco by the pool when I’ve paid over £100 for a spa day but children are allowed with a float in the same facility and I have a plaster floating by me.

I wouldn’t bother—once they have your money, customer service seems to go out the window. Upstairs, there are four heated relaxation beds, but good luck getting one. Most days, members leave towels, phones, and even bags on them to reserve their spot, often for over an hour with no sign of the person. Right now, I’m here, and three beds have been “claimed” this way. Two staff members have walked past without addressing it—it’s as if they’re afraid to remove them.

Katie’s ballet class is amazing. Milan has just started to attend these classes, we are 4 weeks in and she can’t wait to get to class and never wants to come out afterwards. She now has the shoes and outfit and really does look the part. The little performance at the end is always loving for the parents to watch when we collect and shows how much Katie puts into the children and the classes. She is very encouraging and super friendly/
It also means I can do my reformer Pilates class whilst Milan enjoys ballet! 💕🩰

Random price increase minimum charge is £120

Fantastic Gym, unrivalled facilities but difficult to book a class. I loved the running class with Lucas. It is difficult as others have said to swim due to people stood by the jacuzzi and kids doing their own thing. This could be resolved easily my making one or both pools swimming only for a couple if hours a day. My membership has gone from £95 to £120 a month and my opening offer of a £10 monthly discount for life has been removed with no communication whatsoever.

I have been a member for almost 4 years. No problems. However, when it comes to canceling a membership because I have moved abroad. It seems my membership wasn't cancelled. Upon complaining about this. I'm told my account is still "live" and it would be another month to cancel. Meaning 2 extra months of payments without even using the club. Ridiculous.
The process is poor and the staff do no care. Management ignore anything that can and do as little as possible when it comes to dealing with people.

It's really bad practice and I will be reporting to trading standards on how they operate.

It's not on customers to double check that the staff have done their job. What mote does one need to do to cancel?

I have notice in person and it wasn't done.

Be careful when canceling your member and double check everything. The staff are incompetent it seems

Such a shame as I've never had a problem being a member.

On a side note. Since the fire at the gym. The standarsa have slipped massively.

The sauna isn't hot. The sauna door isn't working correctly. The pool is dirty upstairs with the decor.

The gym equipment is falling behind and has not been upgraded for years yet they continue to add members over their allowance. No car parking spaces.

Gypsies frequent the car park regularly and park up on site.

Great gym and facilities but lack in so many different aspects.
- we pay for Apex the spa area is lovely but the music in there is so loud multiple people complain and the manage to fix it then it happens again. Probably because of the constant rotation of different staff.
The service in the spa is not great especially from the ones who are on the desk but amazing from the therapist when you get a treatment.
- the status up to the spa area needs a real clean it smells and looks dirty.
- communication is non existent unless they are trying to sell you spa treatments. Show up.some day planning a.relax the restaurant is closed. That has happened 4 times surely you know when it won't be open so can let your members know?
Overall ok but for the price we'll below average
The best service in there is Jo she is absolutely amazing!! She actually speaks so well about the gym warm and friendly and seems so happy to be there. Honestly wish everyone could be like her a great representation of the brand you want

Tried cancelling my membership in 2021 because was in Iraq and living in Istanbul, I asked if I could cancel and they said I had to come
Into the gym to do so.
I explained but they still wouldn’t cancel.
They then said they wanted proof so I sent passport and my company letters from Iraq with my address there and in Istanbul.
They said they would put on hold until they contact me again:
They contacted me again asking for £95 because I had missed a payment, this was two weeks ago and then agent 4 weeks ago June 2024.
I was shocked and asked why I don’t have a membership anymore it was cancelled, the young girl on phone with the attitude said no you owe us £95 and can only cancel in the gym..
I then found out that they had been taking money from my account since 2021 the amount then being £75pcm and never even sent emails or anything to say ,I was still paying even more so that they had put the membership up to £95.
When I said this is a disgrace the girl said so what and put the phone down.
Two weeks later another lady called, this time was helpful and said again to send the proof, she also informed me that you can cancel over the phone.
She is new to the gym so possibly will get in trouble for telling me this.
She did say I had to pay the 95, you can guess my response.
I have heard nothing since regarding my complaint and the £2000 I want back from them.
It’s not only so called gangsters and drug dealers with the only fans girls using this place.
It’s run by them too..

This has to be the worst gym ever, its full of wanna be wags and gangsters, on a sunny day on the terrace i have witnessed people taking drugs in front of children, the staff done nothing about it then the second time same person taking drugs allowed to stay in the gym, no warning or nothing, other occasions fight broke out were a bottle was thrown in the pool smashing nearly hinting a baby, pool had to be closed for over an hour no apology from staff to any paying members that was there, no email to say sorry, or a complementary drink. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from staff and members, another visit girls fighting in the infinity pool, and a girl having sex with a married man in the hibernation room. Police at the gym, it’s basically a gym for drug lords gangsters and only fans girls. All the gym is interested in is the money these gangsters are spending on food and drinks, they don't care about other members. The staff have attitude problems. Its got to be the worst gym in the north west

Got to agree with some of the negative comments on here. Been a member for two years and I’ve noticed a change in the management in the last few months. The gym equipment is quite good to be fair and the facilities, albeit the staff I would say are blasé when it comes to maintaining the building and compliance.
The AC has been inconsistent over the last few months, not because it’s faulty but they don’t maintain a consistent set point. Literally sweating after a shower and asked by gym personnel to request it to be on when it’s warm in the male changing room. Raised it several times as others but appears to be ignored, not good Athelis. This place could be so much better if managed properly with particular focus on maintaining customer experience and the facilities, cleanliness etc.

Great gym and classes if you can get on them
Pools are hit and miss, if you want a swim during the day then it’s full of kids doing their own thing whilst the parents sit in the jacuzzi that I add kids are in (like a toddler pool) forget it if the suns out it’s like butlins
Nearly £100 a month for activ membership and not one adult only swim area till 6pm

This is an amazing gym with amazing facilities I have PT sessions with maddie she is brilliant and has built my confidence and helping me gain the body I’ve wanted since my children

Rude staff arrogant inept management awful service in the over priced restaurant thats if you get your order taken at all and don't end up waiting for 25 minutes while the staff chat and play with their phones or fold napkins so you eventually end up walking out to eat at the Harvester next door. No complaints procedure or accountability. They let yobs play loud music by the pool and say nothing but if you complain about anything they cancel your membership. Give it a wide berth is my recommendation. Just to add they don't take cash or certain credit cards and the showers switch off every 10 seconds. There have been violent assaults on the premises one serious one by the pool which you can find if you google it so not a safe place to relax in my opinion.

Totally agree with comments below. Awful arrogance in some members and management. Despite cameras everywhere, they literally did nothing after I was abused by younger men when I was trying to swim, shouting and saying I wasn’t allowed to swim!! Then a few stood at the ends so I couldn’t turn. Honestly this happens often. I witnessed older people being harassed and even a lady in her 70s jumped on when she was trying to swim, saw her later in the car park extremely upset. DO NOT JOIN IF YOU ARE OLDER OR A SWIMMER. Join if you want insta photos.

Ok. You need to put a stop to the instawhores filming themselves in the gym, i'm there to work out not be in some narcissistic gymbo's validation attempt. The gym seems well equipped, pool is a little small. I cancelled immediately due to the silly girls filming themselves and i wont consider returning until rules are in place to prevent this

This would easily be a 5* health club and spa if they sorted the swimmers facilities. They have 2 pools and both allow children between 8am and 6pm making it virtually impossible for swimmers to be able to swim lengths. I find this very strange considering the gym area and wellness suite (no children allowed) are so exclusive. The indoor pool allows for 4 swimmers, 5 at an absolute push, outside I would say 4 maximum and as people constantly stand against the jacuzzi it is impossible, as soon as children come in you literally cannot swim.

Why did the board / managers not make one pool adult only or at least reduce the children's times, you absolutely cater to gym goers and people who like classes but do not consider swimmers.

Also swimming times end 30 minutes before close so weekends only allows for 90 minutes child free. Madness.

I can assure the owners / board that many swimmers are getting very fed up with the problems around this pool area.

Are you considering another pool or at least considering an adult only pool?
