Customer service is a shambles
Customer service is a shambles. I tried to apply for a credit card and what a nightmare. I gather all the documents and send them back as requested but get no reply. I send another email - nothing. I call and get no callback. I ask for the manager and he/she does not call back.
Finally, after making a formal complaint I get a call from the original guy who was abrupt and offered no apology for being more than 1 month late in dealing with this. He was basically like, 'do you want a credit card or what''. I have not had worse customer service since Vodafone the legends of bad customer service.
Horrible
Horrible. Waited in one line for personal service for 30mins only to be told I needed to wait in another line which took another 30 minutes. Saw the same thing happening to many others AFTER they'd been in the main teller lines. How are we supposed to know which line to stand in when the only descriptions are Personal Service and Welcome desk?! Stupidest system ever. One teller is chatting about mountains and fresh water with one customer and the other is helping her customer flick thru her phone for 20mins when the lines are going out the door.. insane! Do better sheesh! Start with signage so we know where to blimen stand
Worst customer Service - to open buss account
I've been facing significant challenges this whole week while attempting to open a business account. I initially called on Monday, February 26th, to begin the process, and was instructed to visit a branch. Upon going to the Hornby Branch in Christchurch the following day, I was turned away by a staff member who stated that business accounts couldn't be opened in branches. She assured me that the Small Business Team would contact me within two days. She collected all my details, including my incorporation certificate and ID.
After waiting the allotted two days, I reached out to the Online Service Team yesterday. They assured me they would resolve the issue promptly and promised to call me back the same day. However, it's now noon, and I have yet to receive any communication from them.
As an existing ASB customer, I'm extremely frustrated by the lack of customer service and the delays this situation has caused. Despite my complaint yesterday, no action has been taken.
It's disappointing to experience this level of service, especially when I had considered opening an account with ASB.

I would give it no stars!! Seriously the worst bank ever. Customer service are so rude and not even interested in anything. I accidentally lost my money sending it to wrong bank account online. Straight away I called them to try and get help and they pretty much told me I’ve lost it?! It was an honest mistake because I had two accounts in front of me and entered the wrong one. This is seriously messed up nz!!! I remember the days you could call and they would reverse it with no problem. Now it’s just, we’ll have to see if the receiver gives it back?!! That’s like dropping your money on the floor and the wrong person picks its up and your bank saying it’s there’s now. … that’s so screwed up! It doesn’t even make sense?? Whats wrong with nz these days!!!!
Decline in Service
I have banked with the ASB since I was sill at primary school, back in 1975 . Over the last few years I have noticed a big decline in customer service, in many aspects of the bank. Trying to open a new bank account, even when I have banked with them all that time, when Im working over seas . So much red tape and passing the buck between staff. Then my credit card gets blocked unexpectedly and wants me to send an autherization code they send by text, but I never get a text when this happens . With all these recent issues , it makes me feel like changing banks. No more loyalty.

After entering a wrong password, my account was locked. I followed the instructions and downloaded the ASB app to unlock it. No use: I could not register because my account was locked. I called to toll free number, waited 30 minutes, and then spoke to a customer services person. First, I hardly understood hr due toa heavy accent. After proving a number of details, I was asked to visit an ASB branch (non where I live, closed down), OR take a photo of passport, a selfie of me with passport, and a written and signed photographed application to ASB To unlock my account. I could not understand her instructions due to herr accent. After repeatedly asking , she became snappy and advised to visit ASB in person. I let her know that I am suffering from a disability and, thus, it would be hard for me to do so. She did not acknowledge this at all and just repeated the instructions. Finally, she offered to send an email with the instructions. I felt treated with disrespect and would have expected a comprehensible, friendlier, and less complicated service. Gone are the days where you could easily speak to a bank teller in person..

I have banked with ASB for many years including mortgages etc and received excellent service from my Personal Banker in Nelson and have perfect history with them and because of this was always a strong advocate for them. Last year I took the leap and went into business, initially ASB were in full support and after stringing me along they advised at the 11th hour they were unable to help me. I then obtained finance elsewhere last minute but started business banking with ASB anyway based on past experience. Ever since moving into business banking, my personal banker was unable to help me any more, the business relationship manager ignores me then I’m told I don’t have one, the call centre I’m advised to use doesn’t contact me back or help whatsoever, emails and call backs never get replied to or made and I have been completely ignored/cut off while attempting for weeks on end just to get replies and advice on business banking.
ASB have made the already difficult task of starting my own business 10 times more challenging and in fact at times have added so much extra pressure by ignoring me, not sorting cards and accounts, not processing and losing documents and account applications that they have asked me to complete that I almost fell over in the first couple of months.
I am now looking to move away from ASB for all personal and business banking including my mortgage as they are far from a business banking partner.

No one answers the phone!!! My battery ran out.I am insured with IAG thru the ASB bank after having trasferred from NZI. BIG mistake.I Had to go to the bank itself to get anything done. ASB is a NIGHTMARE to deal with.Been with them for years but too much of a hassle to switch now and another bank would probably be as bad asyway!.Welcome to NZ folks,the land of the long white clowns.

What an awful bank to have to experience… I work nights, so rely upon my card heavily in the early hours of the morning! I don’t have enough fingers to count the times that ASB failed me! I’ve been trying to get a taxi at 5am home from work, and my card doesn’t work … with thousands in the account! And every time I have pulled them up on it they send me a new card and try and pretend it’s on my side, not theirs … 3rd card, same results! What a joke of a company!

Completely useless customer service
Completely useless customer service. Disgusting. More than one hour waiting just because I forgot my password and got locked out of account. Not the first time I have had to wait forever for customer service withe bank! APPALLING!! I am utterly disgusted with ASB customer service. Ever have a problem with this bank = what a nightmare!! And worse if you have to call from overseas!!
Replacement Card
Appalling service for a replacement card. Two and a half weeks since ordering it and it still hasn't arrived. I explained it was for my disabled son and that he had no means of accessing his bank account without it. Phoned multiple times on his behalf. He is now waiting on a courier delivery. Not good enough.
Cancel all cards & insurance when separating
Be aware when you seperate and ask for all joint payments to stop the bank staff may still allow payments to continue that are not in your name. ASB blame underwriters and allow insurance payments for someone you separated with to come out of your account.
When asking ASB what payments are for they claim they are for your personal insurance and that they did not know even though it’s them deducting the money and charging you. Shameful behaviour and follow up.
Joint account means joint
Joint account means joint with each party being equal when it comes to ALL decisions. However this bank proved that they regard the male party in the joint account to be more important than the female. Several times during my divorce and afterwards, the bank acted on my ex husbands sole authority either not consulting me at all or advising me after the decision had been made. Very unhappy about this and would have taken this further had I not beentaken up with the stress of divorcing and selling property.

I would like to thank the whole team of ASB when they actioned my complaint of a fraudulent activity on my credit card. The transaction was still pending when I made a call to ASB and after a few days it cleared. I thought that I could not do anything about it anymore and just have to accept my loss. But lo and behold! A few days after I received an email that ASB will credit back the amount to my card. ASB is indeed a team of professionals and have gained my trust.

Like most organisations in NZ they promote themselves on being super customer friendly , efficient and trustworthy , and exactly to my expectations of business in New Zealand they were not .
All banks are greedy , but most provide a reasonable service , ASB New Zealand certainly does not . Extremely disappointed in them .
