It has been a wonderful experience for my son. He has really enjoyed the classes and the wide variety of creative projects. A Calming, Creative Favourite
My daughter attends several extracurricular classes that she chose herself, and this art class is by far one of her favourites. She never complains about going, which says a lot. She tells me she really enjoys being there and that it feels calming to her, getting to be creative.
The teacher is always happy to answer questions and lets us know what they covered during the session, which I appreciate. One thing I really like is that they have a routine of giving applause when a child finishes their work — it's a small thing, but it's encouraging and helps build the kids' confidence.
Overall we're really happy with this class and would recommend it to other parents.

My child had winter term and workshops, she wanted to continue summer term because she loves going to art club, she even asked if she can do art club 7 days a week. Her teacher - Dimitri is very professional, friendly and kind. My child was a bit anxious at the first day but quickly warmed up. We highly recommend anyone who is interested in art classes, whether it is for a child or adult as they have art classes for adults too.

This is a fantastic class for my 2 children which is so ably taught by Dimitris. A fantastic art studio with friendly and inspiring teachers. My daughter loves attending classes at Art-K Bowes Park and has grown in both confidence and artistic ability. The staff are supportive, encouraging, and create a wonderful environment for children to be creative. Highly recommended!

Her recent watercolour flower has been very impressive, and we can't wait to see the finished piece of her Jo Rance-inspired acrylic painting, which already looks exceptional!
Second art-K half term workshop
My daughter attended her second art-K half term work shop. She had a great time and came up with a couple of pieces she was really happy with. The workshops seem like a great mix of being challenging but supportive and I'm sure she'll be back.

A Welcoming Art Studio and Inspiring Teacher
I really enjoy my time in the studio. It’s a calm and welcoming space where I can relax, paint, and learn new techniques and approaches to drawing and painting. It’s been wonderful for my wellbeing as well.
Dimitris, the teacher is very knowledgeable and experienced, and always knows how to offer new ways and perspectives when I feel blocked or unsure about a painting or drawing. I also really appreciate his aesthetic sense and artistic style, which I find very inspiring 😊

Art K - A godsend for our creative kids!
My daughter Dylan has been going to most of the holiday clubs for just over a year now - as a creative kid she absoutely loves it and I am always impressed by what she comes home with, its streets ahead of anything they do at school or at their extra curricular art club. The holiday club offers a full day at 10-3 or half days slots in the morning and afternoon. This comment may help you in deciding what is best for your child if they are of a younger age and looking to try the holiday club. Its a very vibrant but small creative space, my daughter has the attention span and is used to sitting at home creating for hours on end so a full day suits her - still we take a big walk beforehand and after to shake out all the energy. It takes a lot of focus to develop creative flow. Half days may be better to start with for some kids building up to a full day. Dylan was very fond of her old teacher and I know she didn’t make it easy for Dimitris when he started but they have found their groove, he is very kind and supportive and she is producing some fantastic work! She will be back for Easter :)

It’s reassuring to know that our studio continues to have a positive and creative atmosphere. We understand the strong connections that students can build with their teachers, and it’s very rewarding to hear that your daughter has found her groove with the new teacher.
It’s a pleasure to have her at the studio, and we are always impressed by her boundless passion and wonderful ideas for art. Seeing happy students who genuinely enjoy their time here is a real inspiration for our teachers.

New manager not great
My son used to be very excited about coming to class when the previous manager was in charge. He was fantastic and had a real passion for art, he worked well with kids and inspired creative thinking. Unfortunately the new manager did not seem to like that my son was asking 'many questions/things' or moving in class. I had observed the class from outside and my son was just being a kid creating art, no issues there! This approach really demotivated my son, and he does not want to come back. It is a real shame as the classes used to be really excellent. Unfortunately the current manager isn't great so we won't be coming back.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. We appreciate all feedback, as it stimulates us to reflect on customer experiences and take action to improve when we can.
You have noted a change of teacher and express concern associated with the new teacher. We accept that children can sometimes gel with one teacher and even get strongly attached to likeable characters in their life and a change in teacher may disrupt that or bring about a reset in relationships.
We believe both teachers and in fact all teachers, care for and want to support all children to share and enjoy their art at art-K; this is the essence of being an art leader in art-K. But there may be different approaches to achieving the same goal and a change of teacher may feel disruptive and uncomfortable to any one student.
We investigated further the day in question. There were 2 teachers to 12 students; so 1 teacher to 6 children means we were staffed as normal to provide high level of attention and guidance. Your child benefited from this and many enthusiastic questions were welcomed and answered, albeit this is a group activity and teachers are trained to allocate time equally between all students. Your child was very capable and completed their project well within the available time. Experienced teachers are ready with back up plans for such instances, and further materials and projects/ advice was given. Your child went home with a great set of art work.
Class room management and moving around, must be compliant with the art-K behaviour policy. This policy is important to art-K as it ensures everyone is safe from not harming themselves (trip hazards or falling object hazards for instance), and not distracting too much the other students. We have many children who we help focus with various tactics and it is in all our teachers interest to strive to include as wide a group of children as possible.
Where there is some room for improvement in these areas, we will always talk with parents to find common ground that enables children to always leave with a smile and feeling confident in their abilities.
We recognise that your child connected strongly with their previous teacher, and despite our training and efforts missed the previous teacher, we understand how that can shape their experience. We hope they continue to enjoy art wherever they choose to create next.
Much better than secondary school art classes
My child gets so much out of these classes. The art classes in secondary school don’t cover many different techniques, and the don’t have as much time to focus on their projects. Art-K has given my child the opportunity to learn more and really take the time needed to achieve results.

Small group adult classes
This was my first term with Art-K, (I’d tried another franchise in the summer term).prior to that I’d not done anything arty for 40 years, so consider myself a beginner!
Unlike my previous class I was able to work at my own pace, on a medium of my choice with full guidance from Dimitris.
I’ve already signed up for next term!

100% fabulous class - highly recommend
My 7yo daughter and 9yo son came running through the door saying 'that was amazing' after they did a 10-3 class. I couldn't not believe the art they produced, every piece was completely different and so unique. They loved it and I will definitely be booking more classes. The whole studio was covered with art and art materials so it felt like a lovely dedicated space.

Highly recommend
I have been attending for about a year and a half and I love it. There is a good mix of projects to do and you can also say what it is you want to work on, or what techniques you want to try.
The class itself is friendly with a relaxed atmosphere. It really is open to all levels as the teacher is very encouraging and supportive.

Not recommended for beginners
I booked for the whole term but only ended up going twice. I felt I lost confidence after the second session. I was hoping given my beginner experience which was identified from the start, I would be walked through some techniques with the chosen mediums before freestyling, but the class felt very diy, and I felt although it was a nice environment, there was limited guidance. I genuinely felt I’d be better off learning through social media than continuing to turn up. The people who seemed to enjoy it the most were seasoned amateur artists who were already familiar with things. I would not recommend for anyone else.

It’s clear from your review that the experience didn’t meet your expectations, and we should have made our guidance and structure much more welcoming to you as a beginner.
We have discussed your review with the team in the studio, and in this case, we recognise that this approach wasn’t quite right, and the projects we proposed weren’t the best for this occasion. You may have seen that all the students were on their own projects, and that's because our programme has the flexibility to welcome artists of all experience levels. It’s our responsibility to ensure that every student feels supported and confident. We didn’t get that right this time. When we adjust appropriately, a space is created where every student feels free to grow their artistic skills.

Fantastic art studio for creative fun with caring teaching
My 9 year old daughter has been going to Art-K for the last three years, and has joined both the term time classes and the holiday workshops. She seriously loves all of them. Her expressive creativity is nurtured and encouraged and she loves the cosy intimacy of the studio. I too have joined the adult classes and thoroughly enjoyed both the creative freedom and social interaction of the small friendly groups. Would likely recommend Art-K!
