800Notes used to be a pretty good until trolls like "MikeHutleton" and "Nimrod" started abusing other members.

800Notes used to be a pretty good webpage to get up to date info on spam phone calls. Then the so-called "moderators" with their small amount of power just abused everyone.

Many were removed or at least prevented from abusing others but there are still a few left. Users "MikeHuntleton" and "Nimrod" are holdovers from the really abusive days and now they are abusing posters on the site.

Until these abusive trolls are removed 800Notes will continue its downfall and irrelevance while other websites flourish with more up-to-date call data.

A very useful site

A very useful site to help determine who might be calling from a number. While it is true that many spammers can spoof any number, it does help determine in many cases.

e.g. real bill collector vs scammers, political calls, survey calls, etc.

Note that scammers have been rating 800notes on Trustpilot with low single star ratings, which means that 800 notes is working.

I've never had a problem with the site. It works well, and has saved me from scammers several times, and cost me nothing. Though it is dependent on viewers to write about their experience with the phone call they are inquiring about. Be wary of certain negative reviews... collection workers who use illegal tactics to get you on the line, hate sites like this.

Changed My Mind

I had previously written a rather "unflattering" review of this site largely because of a troll that frequents the site; namely BigA. I revisited the site a couple of times to look into some calls I'd been getting and was pleasantly surprised to find that this troll's demeanor had changed. Seems to be exercising some self control and providing sometimes useful information. The number of people posting helpful information also seems to have improved. I was pleased to find information on both numbers that were calling me and confidently blocked them. I will continue to use the site given this change in troll behavior.

This company is the must horrible , they allow them to damage your company this Russia lady lady who owns this site lives in north Carolina there’s a mini court cases pending on her and they can’t find her to serve her paper. People need to write all the companies that are advertising on her site to drop off pay her. This is what’s keeping it horrible site running. It’s the worst they are allowing people to ruin businesses Livelihood

I am beyond disappointed as I quit…

I am beyond disappointed as I quit using "800notes" about a year and a half ago because it didn't operate the same!
I attributed to everything else that's crazy.
Then I accidentally got to their site when reading a review complaining about their site in a descriptive manner accusing them of not being as they were and trying to manipulate the uer to buy a service!
So I went to their site and it's exactly as stated. I could not even get in if I had an active VPN. SO I turned it off and it was a bait and switch deal. The Reviewers were right.and a 2.9 is way too high since I wouldn't send anyone to it! But when I used them a long time ago they were the best. I hope you are okay with my review!!

Most robocalls now days are spoofed…

Most robocalls now days are spoofed using randomized phone numbers. So it’s unlikely 800notes will have a record of the scammer that called you. This makes 800notes far less relevant than they were 5 years ago. They also block all VPN and proxy connections which is actually a good thing because fewer people will be wasting time searching for nonexistent numbers.

Never had a bad experience with 800 Notes. Never heard of 'moderators' on 800 notes. Anyone can post a reply to your comments on 800 Notes and they could call themselves 'moderators' if they want to. It is a great place to post your experience with unwanted calls and share it with others. Sounds like the 'bad guys' are stepping in and trying to discredit a great site.

Used to be good

Used to be very helpful as a community sourced collection of rogue and legitimate callers.

Now, however, I have to agree with the many people reporting trolls who are also apparently moderators and who seem to have either serious psychological issues or a stake in the unsolicited caller business. Their goal now seems to be to drive people away.

Post there if you don't mind risking some undeserved abuse and look out for those posters named in the other 1-star reviews here.

Have used 800notes for years

Have used 800notes for years

A great way to suss out scam callers
Types of scams
Telemarketers

And also see a 'suspicious' is actually legit

800 notes is a valuable resource, yet Google keeps pushing it out of search results when researching a phone number, instead listing services that charge fees

800notes is free
Has always been free

Why the negative reviews?

Don't know why the reviews are so negative for this site. It's a simple site for finding info, and perhaps adding info of your own, on a specific number. The more info people add from a past phone call, the better the site will be. Plus it's being managed by another provider now. Edited. Boltronix

Fake Arrest Warrants and Walgreens or CVS vouchers

We almost fell victim to a very bad scam where someone called pretended to be with the County police and insisted that there was a warrant for an arrest for someone in our house and that we had to follow their instructions very carefully get $1,500 go to Walgreens and purchase what they called three vouchers and then go to the Sheriff's Office. We got all the way to Walgreens when the clerk at Walgreens said "This is a scam. I have seen this before don't buy the vouchers". I then called the Sheriff's Office and they said it was a scam. Had I completed the voucher purchase at Walgreens all that money would have been lost. We almost lost $1,500 so I reported this to 800notes, with the scammers phone number and one of the admins who works at 800notes mercilessly mocked our complaint about this scammer. When I spoke to the police and my bank they told me that the scam is sweeping the nation. 800notes said it was my fault. It's my belief that some employees at 800notes may be complicit in purposely deleting or removing complaints and phone numbers about reported scammers, their Admins mock genuine reports of theft and are in fact protecting scammers rather than providing a trusted database of criminals.

800Notes -- What it IS, is NOT, and how best to use it..

I'm a "registered user" on the site that does not participate in discussions with any other user, unless it is about a specific number.

How I use it for "FOUND numbers":
I simply look up any number to see if others have reported that number. Sometimes the number is just mentioned in a comment about another number, i.e., If it is a very active company like for "collections" calls, they use a range of numbers. Users will often post all their numbers they know, along with any information they have about that company. Legitimate companies aren't deceptive to ID themselves, since it is unproductive, and they can get fined, or sanctioned.

That number REALLY IS legit!
Often, users report it as spam when it is not, so don't ignore your bank's ID. Answer that IRS call?? Nope!! First, IRS never calls, unless already conversing with you. Second, you can never determine real, or faked caller ID. Look at scammers' motives: They don't care what it takes to get you to actually answer. For instance, if they knew your mother's number, they'd use her number for caller ID. (I hate suggesting that scammers use "known number" caller ID's you would recognize or search for.)

But sometimes the number not only was legit, it was from that company. CitiBank is calling you because your card really was used in a fraud. Call them back?? Yes BUT... NEVER use that caller ID or VM message number to call them back. Find another way to ensure a safe call to them. Look on the back of your credit card. Call the fraud dept. if possible. (They are more likely to answer, as well.)

So, you got a call or even a letter from Social Security asking you to call -- Really?? And just how can you be sure it is real, or fake?? You should never assume it is real, even when "proven".

Social Security Dept will not be calling you!
"But, I got an OFFICIAL LETTER from the Social Security telling me to call." You can guess it is authentic, but assume it is a fraud, but you just don't know how. "OK, I Googled the caller ID. Sure enough, that 407 number was shown TIED to a map showing that local SSec office. So it IS real. NOW I can safely call??" NO!!

I was amazed at researching one of these letters. I found that everything in the letter WAS REAL... That was, EXCEPT the phone number!! Verifying that number with Google?? Dig deeper when searching. Somehow they had TIED that number to that specific SS office's address!! But, the REAL number was an 800#, and NEVER a 407 number!!. Only TEN search hits for that 407? You'd think in St. Pete, FL, that 407 number would commonly show in thousands of hits.

Use 800Notes as a tool to provide one of many information sources, not as "authoritative".

Ignore both Trolls and Admins:
Admins don't have the time or motivation to edit or correct posts, or patrol the inevitable trolls that post e.v.e.r.y, d.a.y! I've participated on reputable sites, and the trolls do cause problems, so ignore them.

Some active companies are flagged as scammers or collections. Their officials, or more likely eager employees, waste their time trying to pretend they are users, "helping" by legitimizing their poor company. Fun reading maybe, but they are still fake.

Determining or even spotting "real" from "fake" is "soon" going to become nearly impossible, like this year. You may get a call showing your mother's caller ID, which you answer and have a "real conversation". Except, it was NOT her, it was an AI bot that was PERFECTLY IMPERSONATING her! Can't happen?? Only a lack of motive prevents it -- today.

Listen to Musk's interview from 4/17/23 -- Google is building what they call, "an AI god". So, better search results? Musk was appalled, since accuracy or safety was of zero concern, Only, "can we use it to 'convince someone of what to think'? And not just 'influence', but, get them to actually carry out actions that we designed for them to take, today." Musk's answer is to hopefully build a better AI engine. If he can reach Mars, maybe he can beat the clock against Google and Microsoft. But Musk said he's "starting rather late, and he's behind right now".

I hope this helps you use 800Notes as just one tool, and not an authoritative source when a number is reported. Search misses are irrelevant, since dialers today typically fake every caller ID. They often use your area code and exchange, and fake the last four digits. Real caller IDs you'd recognize, answer, or call back are to scam you.

800Notes is a place to give and find information

800Notes is a place to give and find what information is available, Your information to report and others about the call that is what it does - Just like the news media its not always false. This is the place were you can post a spam phone number write about it and read other spam victims accounts, its not about preventing them from calling - This is about reporting the number and the information. Scammers can lie about this place. Helping others about the call is what it does. News about legal actions being taken to arrest spammers, & see if the spam number is actually spam or explained. NEVER CHARGED A FEE to join and report or see what is there.
