Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.
Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.
We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. My dog was took to Vetsnow late night at around 10.30pm on 30/7/26 . There was nothing wrong with the treatment he received, however, we have tried to claim the cost of £1300.00 via our insurance and Vetsnow have still not sent the itemised documentation to our insurance company, who have sent 2 requests for information.
Our dog required an overnight stay at vetsnow, followed by another overnight stay at our own vet. Our own vet sorted our claim immediately and payment was sent to us within 4 days. Given the total sum of costs, vetsnow are causing us considerable anxiety. I have sent several emails to request immediate action, but to date my claim remains ongoing.
Vetsnow expect payment straight away for treatment but are not as considerate when it comes to ensuring their customers receive insurance payments to cover veterinary costs that, are in most cases, unaffordable.
The veterinary care is fine - it’s the fees that are nothing less than extortion in a crisis.
A fee of £300 for a total of 35 minutes’ consultation at 1130 on a Sunday morning (because of course, pets get sick on Sundays too) is disgraceful and just over 4x a typical consultation fee at our vets any other day of the week. This is described on the invoice:
“….The OOH fee comprises 75% of
this cost.”
My pet means everything to me, so of course, you have no choice but to pay. I’m sure commercially, exploiting the desperate makes great sense. But it’s morally reprehensible and arguably not aligned to the RCVS professional standards.
No complaint with the service - the staff are always great and the care is fine. There’s just no way to morally justify the fee.
If I could put 0 stars I would. Was informed to bring my dog here to get help for an open wound on his shoulder/neck. We informed the vets before arriving that he won’t allow a collar/leash on him. They then ambushed him and tried to put a lead around his neck even after we told them he wouldn’t allow it. The vet then didn’t even attempt to assess him or look at the open wound. Then told us they can’t deal with skin problems and then had the privilege of charging us £80 for a cream that probably won’t work. We were given dirty looks by two member of the staff who tried to put the lead around him. Horrible experience wouldn’t recommend this vet at all.
After a recent emergency visit,I cannot fault the excellent veterinary care, and friendliness of the staff
All was good,no cause for complaint, and my dog was well cared for.
However, nearly 2 weeks later,I’m still waiting for Vets Now to respond to my insurers. On the same day ,my dog was also treated by his usual vet practice, and that claim was dealt with promptly, payment received within a few days
I’ve now had 2 emails from my insurer saying
” they’ve chased them up twice’’,and will do so again in 5 days time .I have also contacted Vets Now and been told it’s being dealt with.
Whilst I understand there is probably a timescale they work to,it’s not acceptable to have to wait this long.
I had to pay up front a large amount of money to start with, money I did not have and needed to borrow.
At a time when vet practices ( especially the larger ones )are being seen in a less favourable light, especially regarding the huge costs,it would be in their best interests to sort reimbursement a lot quicker. The very first question we always get asked is
‘Do you have insurance?’
Yes I do.
But having to find £500 upfront means insurance doesn’t help at this point
Please Vets Now,aim to do better
We love our pets, but are not made of money.
Prompt intervention and treatment . Sensitive and caring staff
Professional
The staff were very helpful, honest and considerate. Not money grabbing. Would definitely recommend them
Vets now is a licence to print money. The amounts they charge bear no resemblance to the actual treatments. As it’s out of hours they can charge these astronomical prices. It is a business not a vets and money is the priority not the animals.
It really needs investigating.
Excellent service . Friendly staff Dealt with our dog promptly and with care just knocked a star off because it was so expensive .

Fantastic staff it was very much touch and go with our little fur baby Tallulah, she had to spend 2 nights here being closely monitored, but shes made it through, thanks to the great staff and service would highly recommend both this and the PDSA as we wouldnt have our baby if it wasn't for them

Our dog was taken to VetsNow from leaving own vets, for the night. We were expected. All staff we met were polite and respectful. We were explained things to and were told we could ring when wanted to for update.

Vets were very professional and sorted the emergency as expected.
3 stars is for waiting 1h to get triage and another 2h to be seen by Vet. And the very high price of the consultation fee which is 8x the normal price.

Here is your revised review with the duplication removed and the communication point tightened so it only appears once, cleanly and non-repetitively:
⸻
Great clinical care, but confusing and frustrating insurance administration
I had to take my poorly cat to Vets Now out of hours. The vet was great, and I was able to collect my boy a few hours later after treatment. I have no complaints about the clinical care he received.
Unfortunately, the insurance and administration side has been a very different experience.
The process is confusing because Vets Now’s own instructions are inconsistent. The email I received with my invoice told me to:
1. Initiate the claim with my insurer
2. Complete the Vets Now Insurance Information form
I followed those instructions exactly.
However, Vets Now’s website presents the process the other way around, with completing their Insurance Details Form followed by “Step 2: Initiate your claim with your insurance provider.”
Then, after I had completed the Vets Now form, the automated confirmation email told me as an “ACTION” to contact my insurer to notify them of the claim — despite the original email specifically telling me to do that first.
It may simply be that the website and automated communications have not been joined up properly, but from a customer’s perspective it makes an already complicated insurance process unnecessarily confusing.
The £35 administration fee is also frustrating. Vets Now’s terms state that the fee is payable regardless of whether you make the insurance claim yourself or Vets Now makes it on your behalf. So although you can manage the claim directly with your insurer, there does not appear to be a fee-free option if Vets Now needs to provide the information or paperwork required for the claim.
I also struggle to understand how a flat £35 fee is proportionate when both the amount of administration and the time involved could vary considerably. There is potentially a significant difference between Vets Now administering a claim on a customer’s behalf and simply completing or signing a form and providing the required treatment file to an insurer, yet the same £35 fee appears to apply in either case.
More frustrating still is the lack of communication after submitting the information. I received the automated confirmation, there has been no direct update from Vets Now for 10 days. The online chat on the website has repeatedly been unavailable, and calls have involved waiting in a queue before being disconnected because nobody is available to take the call.
This is particularly disappointing given that Vets Now describes completing its Insurance Information form as helping customers recover their money “more rapidly”.
Meanwhile, my insurer says it is still waiting for the information it needs from Vets Now and has now sent me repeated updates saying it will continue chasing them every five days.
So, while I was very happy with the veterinary care my cat received, the insurance process has been confusing, difficult to follow and, so far, VERY SLOW. When customers are being asked to pay a £35 claims administration fee, I would reasonably expect the associated administration and communication to be timely and effective. Based on my experience so far, that has not been the case.

The whole team treated my furry baby with the love and respect he deserves, and cared for him as if he were part of their furry family. They provide the same level of care as if I were paying huge vet bills. I really appreciate the empathy and thoughtfulness. Thank you

Our gorgeous little rabbit become quite poorly real quick and had to go to the emergency vets now as it was a Sunday and really worried about her. The vet did give her a thorough examination and told us what they thought could be the problem, they gave her 2 injections and some paracetamol to take home and instructed us to go to our regular vet next day to discuss where we go from here , xrays, operation, more and more meds or put her to sleep. She is 10yrs old .The cost was £303 for consultation and then they added £83 on top of that for 2 injections and 5ml of paracetamol. How do they justify £386? It's absolutely disgusting knowing you have a really poorly pet and ur regular vet is closed. The worst thing is the following day our regular vet wouldn't see her said they had no appointments (different vet also disgusting) so whilst trying to find another vet I came across an emergency vet that was a non profit vet and it would have only cost £79 for the consultation. In the end we had to contact our regular vet again and demand they see her never mind waiting till the following day she was in agony, sadly we had to say goodbye to her. It's been herrendous and obviously very upsetting.

Would not let my dog go back here. Terrible wait times even in an emergency, staff who are always too busy to give updates on your pet. It’s chaos.

Risposta di Vets Now
Really caring staff despite being short staffed on the day. Didn't mind waiting because we knew we'd be seen.
