THEIR FINANCIAL AID DEPARTMENT DRAGS…

THEIR FINANCIAL AID DEPARTMENT DRAGS THEIR FEET KEEPS CHANGING MY LOAN AMOUNTS WITHOUT CONSULTING ME OR EXPLAINING WHY. THEY WANTED TO HAVE A GRADUATE ON THEIR BOOKS SO THEY ADVISED ME NOT TO CHANGE MY PROGRAM EVEN THOUGH IT TOTALLY SCREWED UP MY FINANCIAL AID. AND THEY TRULY HAVE NO REGARD FOR THEIR STUDENTS AND THEIR FINANCES SINCE THEY ARE A FOR PROFIT SCHOOL. IT'S KINDEGARDEN COLLEGE. IF YOU DO THE WORK YOU WILL PASS BUT THEY WILL HAVE TAKEN YOU FOR ALL YOUR MONEY AND YOU WILL HAVE A WORTHLESS DIPLOMA. THE ONLY THING I LEARNT WAS TO DO MORE RESEARCH NEXT TIME I PICK A SCHOOL.

Disappointed and Frustrated With the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program

I am extremely disappointed with this program. It is nothing like I expected it to be, and if I had known what it was really like, I would have chosen a different school.

The biggest issue is that you are essentially expected to teach yourself everything. The instructors assign textbooks, tell you what chapters to read, and then you’re left on your own to figure it all out. There are no meaningful lectures, no real teaching, and very little guidance from the instructors. Considering the cost of tuition, I expected to actually be taught—not handed a textbook and expected to become an expert on my own.

The only regular interaction with instructors is through weekly discussion posts. Those discussions are mostly students sharing opinions with one another. While instructors may comment or summarize what was covered that week, that is not the same as teaching. If you didn’t have enough time to read every chapter because you’re balancing work and family responsibilities, those discussions don’t make up for what you’re missing.

Every week you’re expected to read several textbook chapters, complete multiple assignments, participate in discussions, and then immediately move on because a new week starts the following Tuesday. There isn’t enough time to truly understand the material, retain it, or learn how to apply it before you’re already being tested on something new. It’s an exhausting cycle of reading, rushing through assignments, and moving on before you’ve had a chance to actually learn.

Many students in this program work full-time, have families, and have responsibilities outside of school. The workload doesn’t seem to take that reality into account. The pace is unrealistic, especially in a profession where understanding the material is so important.

What frustrated me the most was residency. Students are expected to stand in front of the class and practice counseling one another, yet the program had never actually taught us how to counsel someone in a practical way. We learned theories, concepts, diagnoses, and terminology, but we were never shown how to apply those concepts in a real counseling session. Reading about counseling is not the same as being taught how to counsel.

Being expected to perform counseling skills in front of instructors and classmates without adequate preparation was embarrassing and incredibly frustrating. I couldn’t help but wonder why we were being evaluated on skills that had never truly been taught.

The creators of this program need to seriously rethink how it’s designed. Future counselors deserve actual instruction, demonstrations, feedback, and opportunities to learn from experienced professionals—not just independent reading and self-teaching.

I kept hoping the program would improve as I progressed, but it never did. Instead, I became increasingly frustrated and disappointed. I would not choose this program again, and I regret spending so much time believing it would eventually become the educational experience I was promised.

Where big dreams come true

The University of Phoenix has been the perfect fit. Working two jobs and obtaining a degree, has definitely been an experience that has strengthened me. I am so proud of my progress, and I could not have done it without the assistance of all the wonderful academic and financial advisors. I feel blessed to attend a college that pours into first generation students.

Program was great.. until I needed clinical support

I’ve really loved the program so far but now that I am getting into the clinical portion of the experience I am starting to have some issues and doubts. The lack of support, even when I reach out is not acceptable. I reached out multiple times with the difficulty in finding a clinical site, I received little guidance or assistance. Then received a final notice the day prior that paper work was due or our course would be dropped if not completed. I hadn’t received any notice or notification prior to this of due dates etc. so on the clinical front this is very frustrating. I hadn’t received any also checked in with my coordinator once I submitted some of the information to ensure there were not other steps necessary and I received no response until I received the automated group email about the final notice.

My review as an MBA Grad

This master’s degree program offers a flexible and accessible learning environment, which is especially beneficial for working professionals and adult learners like myself. The program’s structure allows students to balance their studies with personal and professional commitments effectively.

I got to explore Business Science not just to learn the basics, but also to learn what can help me avoid illegal lawsuits for my business. University of Phoenix I would recommend to anyone willing to reach the goals they're willing to accomplish or need more time to accomplish them.

Outstanding Experience

The moment I decided to attend University of Phoenix for my Masters of Education everyone I spoke with was extremely professional. I had no issues with anything. I also like they have a way for us to chat with advisors if there is a quick question we need to ask. The entire program had teachers who were outstanding. I will be returning for my Doctorate degree in education.
