It feels like a scam
The company initially reached out to me on Upwork with what appeared to be a legitimate job opportunity. However, as the recruitment process progressed, they began asking questions that had little to do with the role itself.
They seemed far more interested in my previous clients, what they were paying me, and other business-related details than in my qualifications or experience. The interview felt rushed, and many of the questions were unusually intrusive, giving the impression that they were conducting market research rather than evaluating a candidate.
Based on my experience, I suspect they may be posting ghost jobs to gather information about the market and potentially use it to approach freelancers' current or former clients with their own services.
Of course, I can't confirm that's what they're doing, but I would advise anyone interviewing with them to be cautious and avoid disclosing confidential information about current or past employers or clients.

The reviewer applied for a position through Upwork and participated in our standard recruitment process. As with every applicant, information shared during the recruitment process was collected and handled solely for legitimate recruitment purposes, including evaluating professional experience and, where appropriate, conducting employment verification. Verifying employment history is a standard and widely accepted practice to confirm the accuracy of information provided by applicants.
IdeasUnlimited has been an established client on Upwork since 2010 and has successfully hired thousands of workers through the platform while maintaining a strong reputation as one of the top rated companies. Our long-standing history, client satisfaction, and hiring record reflects our commitment to ethical recruitment practices and professional business standards.
The reviewer was not selected to proceed further in our recruitment process based on our established evaluation criteria including the fact that she has poor ratings on Upwork and had no fair explanation for those. Following that decision, she posted this review immediately.
We also note that the review itself acknowledges that these serious allegations made against our company are based on personal suspicions and cannot be confirmed. No evidence has been presented to support the suggestion that IdeasUnlimited engages in the conduct alleged.
We are disappointed that these concerns were published on a public platform without first being raised directly with our team or through the platform (Upwork) on which the recruitment process originated. We would have welcomed the opportunity to review, clarify, and address any concerns in good faith before conclusions regarding our business practices were shared publicly.

Started for 3 months, ended up staying for 5 years now.
I started their service for a three month contract and ended up staying for last 5 years. Everytime one project ended, another opportunity appeared.
The management keeps you in the loop about changes so you are not left guessing. It is the most transparent remote company I have ever experienced.

After I posted my initial review, the company reached out to me and asked me to delete it. Furthermore, it was clearly stated — both by me and by them — that my personal data should be deleted. This was also explicitly confirmed to me during the phone call.
The fact that I was contacted after leaving a ciritical review, combined with the apparent use of data that should have been deleted, is completely unacceptable and only reinforces my negative impression of this company.

His review is again misleading and leaves out key context. He was not a customer or client of our company. He was briefly considered for engagement as an independent contractor, and we have given an explanation as to why we did not hire him as a response to his first review.
After his first review, he reached out to us, apologizing for his behavior and asking to be reconsidered (we have evidence of the correspondence). Thus, we invited him for a professional call to acknowledge his apology, offer any clarifications required, and to see if a mutual resolution was possible. We made it clear during the call, as we had in writing, that his data had already been deleted, in line with GDPR requirements (GDPR gives entities thirty days to remove data). We also informed him that the original position was no longer available. In response, he stated that he would only take the original review down if he was hired on the original position. When we reiterated that this was not possible, he threatened to post another review after the call. That condition and reaction is both unreasonable and inappropriate.
We do not entertain coercive behavior or attempts to blackmail through public platforms. It is neither ethical nor acceptable.
We stand by our data compliance practices and our team's conduct throughout. Attempts to misrepresent the situation or apply pressure through public reviews is unfair, especially after our team engaged respectfully and in good faith.
Don't work with them
My experience with this company was disappointing from start to finish. I'm giving one star due to outdated internal documentation and a general lack of compliance with key EU regulations — a serious issue for any company operating in international markets.
The HR department was particularly unprofessional: even the simplest documents were either missing, outdated, or had to be resent multiple times. This lack of basic administrative organization made onboarding and communication unnecessarily frustrating.
Overall, the internal chaos and disregard for compliance standards make this a company I cannot recommend.

We always appreciate constructive feedback. However this review is misleading, untrue and leaves out important context.
Hannes Messner was never a customer or client of our company. He was briefly considered for engagement as an independent contractor, but never ended up working with our company since he refused to follow our polices and the mandatory monitoring platform.
During his onboarding on July 23, 2025, he raised concerns about our time tracking/monitoring platform. We clarified that this platform is used strictly for validating hours worked and maintaining transparency. Our time tracker is GDPR-compliant, and its screenshot functionality is configured to capture only work-related activity.
Despite all these safeguards, he insisted on bypassing the required time tracking/monitoring platform and we found out that he had another job under the same hours on Upwork (later on, he received negative feedback from that client as well). Since that was an exclusive contract and he refused to use our monitoring platform, we did not proceed further with his application. Misrepresenting the situation publicly, after our team engaged in good faith, addressed concerns respectfully, and followed documented procedures throughout, is both misleading and unfair.
Also we take data protection and compliance seriously. As part of our recruitment process, which began with his initial assessment on July 3, 2025, he signed a GDPR Authorization Form on July 14, 2025, that clearly explained how his data would be collected, used, and stored for recruitment and identity verification purposes. Nonetheless, his data has been deleted in line with EU regulations, and we wish him well on future endeavors.
