Loyalty Penalised, Not Rewarded
I took out car insurance with AA Insurance in May 2025 after receiving a very competitive quote of €375. At the time, this seemed like excellent value and a straightforward deal.

However, when renewal time came around, I was genuinely shocked. I received a renewal quote of €715.83 — nearly double the original premium. What made this even more frustrating was that buried deep in the renewal documents (on page 29) was confirmation that I was entitled to a 50% no-claims discount due to my driving history. Despite this, the overall price had increased dramatically.

This felt like a classic low-ball tactic: offer an attractive initial price to win business, only to significantly increase it at renewal. I found this approach deeply disappointing and, frankly, misleading.

Following the renewal notice, I was repeatedly contacted with phone calls attempting to retain my business. While the price was reduced somewhat during these interactions, it still came nowhere near what I was able to secure elsewhere on the open market.

Unsurprisingly, I chose not to renew.

What adds to the frustration is that my underlying insurer had not changed — only the broker had. It highlights a broader issue in the industry: customer loyalty appears to count for very little, and long-term customers can end up paying more rather than less.

There really should be stronger oversight or an ombudsman specifically addressing pricing practices like this, as it raises serious questions about transparency and fairness.

Overall, a very disappointing experience. Loyalty, in this case, seemed to offer nothing more than the privilege of being overcharged.

Most of the time, this company is very helpful and friendly my only issues was with the Time I was waiting and I think that was my fault.

I was having issues with my battery and had to use the AA Breakdown service twice in 3 weeks. First time, Tom came out, second time it was Liam. Both were super helpful and got me back on the road in no time. I was kept up to date on arrival times by WhatsApp messages and Tom and Liam linked in with me to update on their arrival times. Such great service and peace of mind. Thank you AA

Mick attended me at portlaoise on 21st May 2026 was with me within 20 minutes. He escorted me to a garage and remained on the scene to ensure all was in hand and even offered to drive me home.

Pathetic Service, I have been waiting for 40 mins on call and 15 mins on their website chat support just to talk to an agent. They Advertise to use their website but it's shite. Won't be using AA again and won't be recommending it others. They were very quick when they were selling me insurance but now pathetic customer support!

I was pricing around for driving insurance for my daughter, who has a learners permit and was getting her first insurance in her own name. AA had the most competitive price of all the insurers I tried, with hundreds of euros in the difference. Would definitely recommend.

Recently i renew my car policy with AA.
I said comperhansive insurance and she put me third party insurance rang many times for correction but customer service not help. I never ever do business with them bcz dont want to listesn music on phone. No customer service and not solve any issue.
